Shots Fired Near White House
The Secret Service said shots were fired about one block away from the White House on Friday night, but the White House was not likely the target.
Shots were fired about one block away from the White House on Friday night, but the incident appeared unrelated to the political monument, authorities said.
The Secret Service heard gunfire near Constitution Avenue and 16th Street around 9 p.m. on Friday, The New York Times reports. Two cars reportedly sped off after the incident. One, a black Honda, was found abandoned on a nearby street. Officers found a loaded AK-47 assault rifle inside, the Secret Service said.
Police are still looking for the people responsible.
President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle were not at the White House during the incident.
