Kendrick Lamar Drops New Single, 'I'
The first sounds of Kendrick Lamar's sophomore effort has dropped. TDE released "i" (as in #ilovemyself) Tuesday morning.
Producer Rahki (who's gotten behind the boards for Eminem's "Won't Back Down") samples the Isley Brothers' "That Lady" for the track and keeps that up-tempo, coffee groove.
"I bought the whole Isley Brothers collection," Lamar said last year to Flaunt magazine. "I know all these songs because they were playing in my house growing up, but I didn’t know what I was singing… Now, I realize they were talking about some serious relationship s--t — being in love, being out of love… They were on some grown s--t."
K. Dot doesn't back down on the track either. His flow is effortless and urgent. "I done been through a whole lot/ trials tribulations, but I know God," he opens.
His good kid, m.A.A.d. city follow up is expected sometime this year.
