Lecrae Earns First No. 1 Album With Anamoly
Lecrae has a lot to celebrate this week. The BET Music Matters artist is making history with his latest effort, Anomaly. His seventh studio album is the first solo hip hop effort by a Christian rapper to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 and the Gospel Albums chart in the same week; and it's his first No. 1 on the 200.
The LP features his lead single, "Nuthin,'" and has proved to be Lecrae’s best first-week sales to date. It's moved more than 88,000 copies in the week ending Sept. 14, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. The sales trumped that of 2012's Gravity, which debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 72,000 units sold in the first week.
Lecrae now has his sixth No. 1 album on the Gospel Albums charts and his fifth top-selling LP on the Christian Albums chart. The Atlanta rapper's come a long way since he first charted in 2005 with Real Talk at No. 39 for Gospel Albums.
Tune in to the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. EST; he's nominated for Impact Track of the year with "Nuthin'," going up against Common, Lupe Fiasco, the Roots and Talib Kweli.
