XXL Reveals 2014 Freshman Class
The wait is over for what has become one of rap's most coveted lists, XXL's annual Freshman Class.
The publication unveiled its 2014 Freshman Class of ground-breaking talent, featuring 12 artists hailing from both coasts, the South and the Midwest, live on BET's 106 & Park Monday (May 5).
Known as the "Dirty Dozen," this year's collective includes Troy Ave, Rich Homie Quan, Jon Connor, Kevin Gates, Jarren Benton, Isaiah Rashad and Chicago spitters Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, Lil Durk and Lil Bibby.
For the first time in the history of the list, two R&B acts made the cut, New Orleans crooner August Alsina and L.A. native Ty Dolla $ign.
In the coming weeks, XXL will roll out even more content on the "Dirty Dozen." The crew will be featured in special profiles, roundtables, the infamous cypher battle and more surprises to come.
XXL launched the Freshman Class edition back in 2008. Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore, J. Cole, Big Sean and Iggy Azalea are among XXL's past Freshman Class members.
