Justin Timberlake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Lead 2013 MTV VMA Nominations
Between "Suit & Tie" and "Thrift Shop" clothing will be front and center at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Justin Timberlake and rap newcomers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis tied for the most VMA nominations with six nods each.
Third place goes to Bruno Mars at four nominations, followed by Pink, Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus and Thirty Seconds to Mars, all with three apiece. Mars, Swift and Thicke are set to face some stiff competition for Video of the Year, going up against Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Timberlake.
The end of JT's six-year hiatus earned his Jay-Z-assisted "Suit & Tie" recognition in the Best Direction and Best Collaboration categories. Meanwhile, aside from Video of the Year, "Mirrors" is up for Best Male Video, Best Pop Video and Best Editing.
As for the Seattle-bred rap duo, all three of their singles could bring home a Moonman (or six). The sleeper hit "Thrift Store" is a Video of the Year contender, while "Can't Hold Us" nabbed Best Hip Hop Video, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Direction nominations. Lastly, "Same Love" gives the pair their final nod, for Best Video With a Social Message.
Other multiple award contenders include Drake for "Started From the Bottom" and Kendrick Lamar for "Swimming Pools." MTV plans to drop the complete nominations list on their Vine and Instagram pages Monday (July 22).
The 2013 VMAs will air live from Brooklyn's Barclays Center at 9 p.m. ET on Aug. 25.
