J. Cole Unveils Born Sinner Release Date
The summer is looking to be a good time for rap music now that J. Cole's album has been added to the mix. Cole's sophomore effort, Born Sinner, will officially make landfall June 25.
Cole took to Twitter Monday (April 8) to announce the drop date just ahead of the video premiere for "Power Trip," the Miguel-assisted lead single off Born Sinner.
The Grammy winner will debut the "Power Trip" visual via MTV and VEVO before making a stop on BET's 106 & Park Wednesday (April 10). "The most exciting part about that song and the reason why we went with it is because it sounds like nothing that's out," Cole said in an interview, later comparing the track to Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River."
Co-directed by Nabil and Mike Piscitelli, the video for "Power Trip" was shot in Cole's hometown of Fayatville, North Carolina, and features appearances from some of his childhood friends.
Since its February release, "Power Trip" has worked its way up to No. 11 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs charts and continues to climb.
Although he hasn't made all of the Born Sinner details public, the 28-year-old is executive producing the project. He also called on the assistance of NO I.D., the Chicago producer most widely known for his work with Kanye West and Common.
