Usher, Shakira Nearing Deal to Join The Voice
With American Idol scoring Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey for its upcoming new season, NBC's The Voice is looking to steal back the spotlight with some high-profile hires of its own. The Hollywood Reporter reports that both Usher and Shakira are in talks to join the reality singing competition as judges when the show returns next spring.
The Voice's current lineup of judges, including Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, are unconfirmed for return next year. Aguilera, in particular, has expressed a desire to spend more time working on her own music.
"[The Voice has] kept me away from my heart, which is creating my own music," the pop star recently told Billboard.
"It’s been a joy to be a part of other people's journey, to be able to inspire and be a part of new singers coming up in this business," she continued. "But I was starting to get really worried and concerned that I wouldn’t have the time to go and be an artist again."
