2 Chainz: I’m Comfortable Working With Drake
2 Chainz recently kicked off the countdown to his debut solo album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, with the release of the Drake-assisted summer single "No Lie." The ATL rapper recently caught up with the Justin Credible and J Cruz on Power 106 in Los Angeles and talked about working with Drake on the song.
Having appeared on tracks with everyone from Rick Ross to Lil Wayne to Kanye West, 2 Chainz said he knew exactly how to approach his collaboration with the talented Toronto MC.
"All of the features I do for myself, I put a lot of thought into them. It's about [doing] what makes sense," he said. "I have to be comfortable doing the records, and I have to be comfortable [performing] them when [the featured artist is] not there. Especially when it's a singing record."
2 Chainz said he and Drake understand each other and had talked about working together for quite some time.
"I heard the beat and I did my verse, and I didn't really give him any direction, but I told him 'You know, a little melody," he said. "Drizzy is aware of my campaign being 'T.R.U.' and being all about the real, so he took that and he applied it. It made it a more natural song and genuine."
Based On a T.R.U. Story is due August 14 from Def Jam.
