Beyoncé Calls Surrogacy Rumors Crazy
Beyoncé is no stranger to the gossip mill and tabloid pages. The internationally known pop superstar has been a part of her fair share of rumors, but the most upsetting tale she’s been involved in of late was last year’s talk that she and husband Jay-Z hired someone to carry their baby girl, Blue Ivy Carter, through birth.
“That was crazy. It wasn’t hurtful, it was just crazy,” Beyoncé told People magazine, which voted her the World’s Most Beautiful Woman of 2012. “[I thought] 'Where did they come up with this?'”
The speculation hit the fan after a now famous interview Bey did with an Australian talk show where her stomach seemed to fold up. Tabloids and blogs immediately ran with a story that the Grammy Award-winning songstress was wearing a prosthetic bump.
Such talk seriously upset the singer’s mother Tina Knowles.
“I thought it was very unfair and very cruel that someone would think that someone would be that diabolical to keep up a charade like that for nine months,” she said. ”As a mother it was painful for me to hear the crazy rumors. And I even had people ask me, which was so ridiculous.”
“It was a fabric that folded — does fabric not fold? Oh my gosh, so stupid,” Mama Knowles added.
In the face of the wild rumors, Beyoncé gave birth to Blue Ivy in January and she has enjoyed the support of her loyal fans throughout her pregnancy and beyond. Tina Knowles thanked those fans.
“There was so much love and well wishes from all over the world — it made it easier to deal with the stupid rumors.”
