Nick Cannon Recovering After Kidney Failure
Two weeks ago, Nick Cannon gave the world — and his wife Mariah Carey — quite a scare when he was hospitalized for mild kidney failure. But now the rapper/actor is back on his feet, giving interviews and even making an appearance alongside his wife when she was awarded at the BET Honors 2012 on Saturday in Washington, D.C.
Cannon, fresh out of the hospital, strode to the stage at BET Honors 2012 dramatically to greet his wife, who was being tributed at the star-studded show along with Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee, Maya Angelou, the Tuskegee Airmen and Olympic track coach Beverly Kearney. Cannon was carrying son Moroccan, one of the couple's newborn twins, and revealed that Mariah isn't the diva the public thinks she is. “You don’t see [a diva] up at 3 in the morning fixing me soup and stuff when my kidneys ain’t acting right,” he said. “Mariah Carey does that.”
Cannon also recently discussed his health scare with MTV. “I always considered myself as someone who was in great shape, but I was doing too much [to my body], so my immune system got confused and just started attacking my kidneys," he said. "You look at my Twitter picture and I look like I’m in shape, but I was putting the wrong stuff into my body, speeding all the time, not sleeping and eating properly. It’s all about taking time and really caring about yourself and how you fuel yourself.”
To that end, Cannon said that he's on a new, strict diet. "I'm feeling good, I'm in the office, I'm grinding. The only thing that sucks is that I'm on a renal diet," he said. "It's all about healthy living. I don't get to eat the things that I like to eat. It's all about fueling your system. Lots of water, fruits and vegetables. I used to be on Lucky Charms, all that stuff. [Now I eat] real oats. Not even the good oatmeal — like horsefeed stuff. I can't have any sodium right now."
But not all is lost for Nick's taste buds. "I can still have Tabasco sauce, so I'm excited about that because I love hot sauce," he said. "I'll be putting Tabasco sauce on carrots, like, 'This tastes delicious!'"
Good luck, Nick.
