Vybz Kartel Charged With Murder
After two days of investigation, Jamaican law enforcement have charged dancehall star Vybz Kartel with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
According to the Jamaica Observer, detectives in Jamaica’s Major Investigation Taskforce gathered enough evidence against Kartel (born Adidja Palmer) to charge him and members of his crew with the murder of music promoter Barrington “Bossie” Burton. Police discovered the body of the 27-year-old promoter at a location Kartel frequents.
"The allegation is that on Monday, July 11, 2011, Palmer, along with other men, conspired to murder Barrington Burton aka 'Bossie', a 27-year-old businessman/promoter of a Gregory Park address in St Catherine. Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park," the police release said.
Kartel was arrested on Friday (September 30) in a raid on one of his many properties. Police found drugs and weapons at the home and initially charged the reggae artist with drug possession while they investigated the murder.
Lawyers for the “Rampin Shop” deejay are expected to file a "not guilty" plea at a preliminary hearing today.
