Grammy Award-winning R&B artist Monica added a significant notch to her already legendary music career.
She was honored on Sunday night (Nov. 29) with the Lady of Soul Award at the 2020 Soul Train Awards. It’s the highest honor bestowed by the show for contribution to the music industry.
“The little girl, that was constantly told what she couldn’t do it, did it because you’ve been there and because you consistently supported me,” she said, thanking her family and all those who helped her reach the top.

Monica, whose full name is Monica Denise Arnold, was the sixth artist to win the award. She burst onto the music scene as a teenager, landing a major hit with her debut album Miss Thang.
“I have accomplished a lot, but there’s so much more I’d like to do because I believe he’s still carrying me. I know it’s possible,” she said in thanking God for his “grace and faithfulness” to her.
