R. Kelly’s Lawyer Says His Health Is Declining And Requests His Release From Jail
R. Kelly’s lawyer is now asking for the R&B singer to be released from jail on grounds that his health has declined while behind bars. According to the Chicago Sun Times, his lawyer, Steve Greenberg, filed the motion in the Eastern District of New York on Monday (Sept. 30).
In September, Greenberg requested for Kelly to be moved out of solitary confinement and into the general population because he was being to “cruel and unusual punishment.” It appears Kelly's health isn’t faring much better.
According to the 11-page document filed this week, Greenberg says he has not received proper medical attention or treatment since he has been in prison, according to the legal documents obtained by the Chicago Sun Times.
The defense attorney says that the prison’s conditions “remain stifling,” which has been detrimental to his client’s health. The 52-year-old is currently being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago without bond where he has been since his arrest in July.
Kelly’s list of medical issues reportedly include “numbness in his hands, anxiety and an untreated hernia.”
Greenberg’s request also included a complaint that Kelly’s visitation privileges have been “severely restricted.” Only one of the singer’s girlfriends has been able to visit him at a time.
"He is limited to 300 minutes on the telephone, per month….he is only allowed one unrelated person to visit," Greenberg stated. "In other words, although he lives and has lived with two lady friends, only one of them is allowed to be on his visiting list, and after 90 days he is required to switch,” the motion stated. “No other friends or professional colleagues are allowed to visit. That is not right.”

In a push for Kelly's release, his lawyer argued Kelly should be freed as he is not a flight risk and does not pose a threat to his alleged victims. Right now, Kelly is facing 11 federal charges relating to child pornography across multiple states.
The site concludes that a motion will be heard at the next hearing for his New York case this Wednesday (October 3).
