Nas Drops Contempt Charges Against Kelis Amid Custody Case
According to a new report from The Blast, former hip-hop couple Kelis and Nas might be patching things up between them for the benefit of their son.
Last September, the co-parents leveled claims of abuse against each other. A custody battle over their 9-year-old son, Knight, followed thereafter. Now, Nas is reportedly de-escalating the situation with his former spouse on paper.
Last week, Nasir reportedly asked his legal team to have the contempt charges he filed against her dismissed just days before a hearing was supposed to happen, according to court documents obtained by the publication. The hearing was set to happen Thursday, June 20, but the rap icon apparently had a change of heart.
Formerly, the Queens rapper accused his ex-wife of keeping him from seeing their son on New Year's Eve as planned after Kelis took him on an impromptu trip to Colombia without informing Nas. He alleged that he did not see his son until about two weeks later despite prior arrangements to see him sooner.
The Illmatic rapper turned to the courts to solve the matter, filing for a judge to hold in her contempt for allegedly violating their custody agreement at least 17 times.Kelis reportedly pleaded not guilty to the charges two months ago in April, though it's unclear what led to Nas to reportedly drop the charges now.
All things considered, let's hope this is a healthy start to a new direction for the co-parents and for the betterment of their son!
