Breaking: R. Kelly Charged With 10 Counts Of Criminal Aggravated Sex Abuse
According to TMZ, the Cook County State’s Attorney has slammed alleged sexual predator and R&B singer R. Kelly with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sex abuse. Revealed on Friday morning (February 22), the charges each carry a maximum sentence of three to seven years and are categorized as Class 2 felonies in Illinois, standing Kelly up against possible decades in prison if found guilty on all 10.
The site reports that a grand jury convened one week ago after prosecuting attorney Michael Avenatti’s latest discovery: a sex tape
Recently, Avenatti, the Hollywood lawyer sworn to take down the Pied Piper, also made the public aware of a third tape involving Kelly and an underage girl in sexual acts. The grand jury heard testimonies from two women who brought not only their recollections against him, but physical evidence from one who told the grand jury that she knew of Kelly’s sexual deviancies with underage girls, the site reports. TMZ adds that at least 12 women also testified.
The news breaks just one day after two other accusers stepped forward with their stories of Kelly’s sexual misconduct that they’d experienced as teens in the ‘90s. Latresa Scaff and Rochelle Washington both shared details of the night they were allegedly abused by Kelly in Baltimore. They stated that members of his crew at the time gave them drugs and alcohol before taking advantage of them, attempting to coax the then-underage women into a threesome.
In light of the newest charges brought against Kelly, sources told TMZ that prosecutors will appear before a judge to seek an arrest warrant for Kelly. We’ll keep you updated on more developments as details become available.
