In a tell-all exclusive interview with celebrity gossip blog Hollywood Unlocked, R&B songstress turned celebrity chef Kelis revealed through harrowing details that she suffered domestic abuse at the hands of her former husband and Queens rap icon, Nas.

In a clip posted to HU’s Instagram, Kelis parallels the incident to the high-profile Hollywood domestic abuse case of 2009 between Chris Brown and Rihanna.

“Something reminded me of Rihanna,” she recollected in the clip. “I remember so clearly when the pictures came out with that whole thing that happened with her and Chris Brown. The only way I could describe it was like double-dutch, like, ‘Do I jump in? Do I say it?’ Because I had bruises all over my body at that time.”

Kelis said she was in their Atlanta home at the time when the disturbing photos of RiRi’s injuries from Brown went public. Visibly, she begins tearing up and struggling through her words as she recalls not being ready to walk. As for why she chose to stay, the Kelis Was Here songstress said, it was all a matter of privacy.

“I’m not weak and I’m really private,” she said, adding that she felt at the time that the marriage and partner she chose held priority over anything else. “I’m not frail, I’m not scared, I’m not weak.”
