Though it was four years ago, Beyoncé’s epic Super Bowl Halftime Show performance of 2013 is still regarded as one of the most electrifying, grand ceremonial shows the annual football championship has ever seen.

The Super Bowl Halftime stage secured more love from Mrs. Carter in 2016, where she boldly delivered a show-stopping statement for Black empowerment and Black womanhood in yet another iconic Queen Bey performance. But after Jay-Z has reportedly declined a headline spot for the 2018 Super Bowl festivities amid the NFL’s racial controversies, the halftime stage unfortunately won’t be receiving any love from the Carter family this year.

According to VladTV, Hov kindly declined the offer to grace the 2018 Super Bowl Halftime show. There are no confirmations on why just yet, but many have pointed to his stance of solidarity with the organization’s unclaimed arch nemesis and now-former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, and especially after Jay took to the Meadows Music and Arts Festival stage in New York City to dedicate one of his 4:44 album’s testaments to Black America, “The Story of O.J.,” to Kaepernick.

The football star-turned-social activist has been embroiled in controversy following his silent protests against police brutality and other Black American injustices on the field, protests that have caused him to remain blackballed and unemployed by the NFL. Considering that Hov’s 4:44 opus is doused with his position on the state of Black America, speculation that he’s standing (or kneeling, rather) with Kaepernick could be the most educated guess as to why he’s declining this year’s halftime festivities.
