2017 MTV Video Music Awards Winners And Top Moments

Kendrick Lamar, Khalid and others walked away with hardware.

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards had its fair share of memorable moments and hardware winners.

  • Kendrick Lamar was on the top line of award winners as he pulled in six awards, including ones for Best Hip Hop video and Best Video overall. He also had one of the most memorable performances of the night and opened up the show, trotting out DAMN. singles "DNA" and "HUMBLE."

Donning a red bubble jacket and a matching du-rag, K. Dot showcased his almost doubletime flow while a gang of ninjas climbed a flaming gate behind him. Kung Fu Kenny, indeed.

  • Cardi B was her lovable self during the awards. Prior to introducing Demi Lovato, the "Bodak Yellow" rapper gave a shoutout to Colin Kaepernick.

"Colin Kaepernick, as long as you kneel for us, we gon be standing with you, baby," she said. Cardi also performed at the Awards' pre-show.

  • P!nk received the Video Vanguard Award and gave a rather inspiring speech about her six-year-old daughter Willow, urging her to be who she is no matter what.

  • Oh yeah, and Taylor Swift world premiered her video for “Look What You Made Me Do” with some not-so-subtle disses to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Everyone noticed. Kinda weak TBH. You can watch it below, though.

  • Perhaps the most touching moment of the night was when the mother of Heather Heyer, Susan Bro, gave an inspirational speech about her daughter in the wake of her murder by a white supremist terrorist in Charlottesville, Virgina on August 12. She awarded all nominees of the Best Fight Against the System video catagory a moonman trophy.

“Help me make Heather’s death count,” she said. “I want people to know that Heather never marched alone.”

  • Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry closed out the awards with a collaborative performance of "Swish." Nicki was dressed in what looks like a referees uniform? Regardless, she was fire behind the mic.
