The recent news regarding controversial R&B star R. Kelly caused a firestorm on social media this week. Allegations that Kelly is holding women in an abusive cult surfaced in an explosive Buzzfeed article on Monday (July 17), but the singer has now come out to deny them in an attempt to clear his name. 

On Monday, the 50-year-old artist released a statement through his attorney Linda Mensch.

"Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed by the recent revelations attributed to him," Mensch wrote in the statement, according to TMZ. "Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such accusations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name."
