Drake Tells the Story of the First Time He Got High
While Drake has been keeping a low profile these days, save for spoiling Jennifer Lopez with expensive jewelry, it's clear it's because the 6 God has been in full-on studio mode.
While he's readying his forthcoming project, More Life, the rapper appeared on a podcast hosted by Hall of Fame basketball coach and bestselling author John Calipari. On top of revealing details surrounding his new music, he also shared what went down the first time he indulged in a little substance scientifically known as cannabis.
As exemplified throughout the duration of the podcast, Calipari and Drizzy have been friends for ages at this point, with Drake admitting that the acclaimed coach inspired him to seriously pursue academics for the first time and how honored he was that Calipari attended his own graduation.
While their conversation is both an interesting and rare look into Drake's vested interest in sports and, of course, his career in music, he also is comfortable enough to open up about the first time he smoked weed.
"I wanted to fit in, I wanted to be cool," Drizzy shares during the interview. "It was a couple hours before my first audition for Degrassi. I was so angry at myself — I was in tears. I thought I had thrown my whole life away."
Not only can we picture what Drake's face looked like while retelling this particular story in hindsight, we also can imagine a Degrassi-era Aubrey Graham getting emotional after underestimating the power of the plant out of fear he ruined a career-defining opportunity.
