Gina Rodriguez Breaks Down In Tears Over Being Called Anti-Black – And The Internet’s Reaction Is Ruthless
Oh, Gina.
Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez, in recent memory, has shown on a few occasions that she has a few transgressions regarding race — particularly related to other minority groups — in her pocket, and thus, these decisions have led to her being dubbed as anti-Black, by many.
Most recently, the actress broke down in tears during an interview while addressing the backlash she has received for her questionable comments, and Twitter feels no pity for her, what so ever.
The notoriously outspoken — we'll get to that in a second — actress recently appeared on Sway's Universe where she shared her thoughts on the public dubbing her as anti-Black due to criticisms of the community she made over the past few years.
While doing so, she aggressively teared up and firmly denied the accusations.
"The backlash was devastating to say the least because... because the Black community was the only community I looked towards," she said, while gradually bursting into tears. "We didn't have many Latino shows and the Black community made me feel like I was seen. To get 'anti-Black' is saying that I'm anti-family because my father is dark-skinned — he's Afro Latino... So, that was really devastating to me."
The actress went on to stress that Caucasians and Asians were not offended by her words — only the Black community.
"It's sadly a fact that Latinas in all [industries] make less money. It's a fact and it sucks, but I wasn't saying just them," she continued. "Like, it's interesting because the white community nor the Asian community didn't get mad at me. And I found that very interesting because the one community I felt I related to the most were the most upset with me."
Take a look at the interview, below:
Upon seeing the clip, Twitter users, disgusted and confused by her words, took to the site to rehash moments where Rodriguez exercised her ignorance most.
In one instance, one user pointed out her less-than-impressed reaction when Marvel announced the majority-Black cast of Black Panther. Her response: "Where are the Latinos?! Asking for a friend..."
In 2018, the actress, in a highly discussed moment, notoriously All-Lives-Mattered an interviewer who highlighted Yara Shahidi as a role model for Black women during a press junket.
Rodriguez interjected by stating that the young actress is a role model for "all" women before the interviewer made it known that he said what he said.
Then, there were the 2018 comments she made in regard to pay equity in a roundtable alongside the likes of Gabrielle Union, Ellen Pompeo and Emma Roberts.
“I get so petrified in this space talking about equal pay especially when you look at the intersectional aspect of it, right?" she said. "Where white women get paid more than black women, black women get paid more than Asian women, Asian women get paid more than Latina women, and it’s like a very scary space to step into. Because I always feel like I fail when I speak about it because I can’t help but feel already so gracious to do what I do and I feel like, culturally, I feel like I was raised to just feel so appreciative of getting here.”
Frankly, Twitter lit her ablaze for her take on this issue, as well.

Needless to say, Twitter's reaction to her comments was not, at all, positive. See their critique of the actress, below:
