Issa Rae Drops A Bomb About Lawrence's Future On 'Insecure,' And Twitter Is Shook

How does #TeamLawrence feel about this?

Insecure's cult following is eagerly awaiting the return of the HBO smash hit, and with the season three premiere just a couple of weeks away, Issa Rae and the the series' showrunner have revealed some major news regarding one of the show's most integral characters from its introduction.

According to Vulture, during the third annual Insecure Fest in Los Angeles this past weekend, Rae and Prentice Penny revealed that season three of the show will take a break from Jay Ellis' character, Lawrence.

Viewers witnessed Issa and Lawrence's emotional farewell during the season two finale, which left Lawrence's progression in the story pretty definite.

Rae explained how she feels about the infamous #LawrenceHive possibly being up in arms due to Ellis' departure, and her response is as direct as it gets.

"No, I don't care!" she said. "We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, she's moving on Daniel, sometimes we have those conversations. You never see the exes again. And it's OK! You gotta explore life without Lawrence."

Echoing her sentiments, Penny stressed that Lawrence leaving the picture makes for a more realistic progression.

"At the end of the day, we're always trying to tell stories that are true and authentic," he said. "We were in the writers room and we were initially talking about, 'OK, well what is he doing?' Well, he's not in her life right now. It was hard to make stories around that... We just said, 'Well, if he's not around, he's not around.' Let's just deal with the reality of what her life is now. Let's be true to that. When you breakup and you have closure."

Jay Ellis, himself, teased that his time on the series may have come to an end back in April during an interview with Angie Martinez.

After mentioning that he had been "out of the loop" regarding season three's plot and filming schedule, he added, "I'm a little bit out of it. I'm not really... They've been filming for the last six or seven weeks or something like that... I don't know [if I'll be back]. I honestly, truly don't know."

Meanwhile, Insecure fans have been sharing some mixed reactions to the news:
