Tyrese On 50/50 Custody Ruling: "Today Is a Win for Our Daughter"
After Tyrese Gibson’s very public meltdown, it seems like things are looking up for him and perhaps more importantly, his daughter.
The actor/musician is now celebrating after being granted 50/50 custody of his 10-year-old daughter. The decision comes after a very hectic court battle with his ex-wife Norma Mitchell Gibson.
The Fast & Furious star took to Instagram this afternoon to post a gallery of photos of himself and his daughter Shayla. In the caption, he explained that the whole situation was a win/win and relayed his thoughts on the difficulty of a young child being torn between parents who are no longer married.
“Today is not a win for me, it is a win for our daughter, Shayla. Who unfortunately has been exposed to tension, private and public embarrassment and growing up and feeling torn between 2 parents who are no longer married......” he wrote in part. “It is a win because she gets to spend equal time with both of her parents in joint legal custody while she continues to grow in a happy and healthy environment – this has always been and will continue to be my priority.”
On Friday, a judge awarded Tyrese joint custody of his daughter, which will begin in January and denied Norma Gibson’s request for a permanent restraining order, according to PEOPLE Magazine. They’ve also reportedly worked out a visitation schedule for the holidays.
It’s been a good weekend for Tyrese. Hopefully this will jumpstart a new life chapter for him. See his Instagram post about the new custody ruling below.
