Lela Loren Of 'Power' Describes Taking Bullet At End Of Season 5: 'It Was Fun!'
In just a few days fans of the hit crime drama Power will witness the beginning of the end. The series by Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent enters its sixth and final season this Sunday, and there are many questions waiting to be answered.
At the end of Season 5, there was a tense standoff between James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick) and his best friend, Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora). Ghost, the embattled former drug lord trying to go legit, was meeting with his lover, Angela Valdez (Lela Loren), a district attorney whose office has been hot on Ghost’s heels for years. Ghost manipulated Tommy into shooting and killing his own father, an incarcerated mob guy turned informant, and Tommy was waiting to take his revenge on Ghost.
However, when Tommy took aim at Ghost, Angela stepped in and took the bullet for him, ending the season on a cliffhanger: Did Angela survive?
During a sit-down with the cast, we asked Sikora and Loren what it was like shooting that scene to end Season 5.
“It was a really intense scene,” Joseph says. “It was shot in like two parts, obviously, with me being on the third floor and them on the first floor. It’s the penultimate sacrifice, I suppose.”
While the scene ended with Angela taking a bullet to the chest, Lela saw the fun in it.
“For me you get hooked up to a blood rig with a tube oozing sticky, red liquid out. You practice falling and the amount of times I got to shove Omari’s face plant out of the way so I could take the bullet, that was fun. And then you better not screw it up because there is so many costumes that you can have changes [into] with the blood coming. That stuff, frankly, is fun. You’re making television!”
The start of Season 6 began with a table read, and Joseph was happy to see his friend Lela in attendance.
“It was really exciting to start knowing that it was the last season. It picks up right where we left off in Season 5, and if the bullet was a little bit further over, that would have been curtains for Angela. So it was nice to see my buddy at the table read. We really kick off the season with a blast. It’s the old Hollywood adage of starting with an earthquake and building from there.”
