Jay Z and Solange Both Take Blame for the Elevator Fight
Solange and Jay Z have both taken responsibility for the 27-year-old singer fighting her brother-in-law in an elevator at New York's Standard Hotel after last week's Met Gala.
In a statement to the Associated Press, the Knowles-Carter Crew maintained solidarity, without going into detail over the cause of the physical altercation. "As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it," the statement reads. "Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family."
The statement goes on to blast rumors that Solange was drunk leading up to the attack on the Brooklyn native. "The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."
TMZ ran the footage of the scuffle Monday (May 12) and, within a couple of days, the Standard Hotel fired the staffer for leaking the recording. In the surveillance video, Solange is seen kicking and hitting Jay, who is standing next to Beyoncé. The 32-year-old superstar briefly interjected but ultimately left it up to her security guard to calm her younger sister before the matter was extinguished.
Hours after the video leaked, Bey and Jay attended an NBA playoff game together while Solange has remained out of the public eye. Over the last two days, the sisters have posted photos with each other on Instagram, further showing that there is no bad blood between them.
