Kanye West Readies Yeezus Release
Kanye West is getting ready for his delivery date (suspected to be June 18) and the conception is looking immaculate.
The weekend of revelation started Friday evening (May 17), when 'Ye replaced his "June eighteen" tweet with "NEW SONG AND VISUAL FROM MY NEW ALBUM BEING PROJECTED TONIGHT ACROSS THE GLOBE ON 66 BUILDINGS, LOCATIONS @ http://KANYEWEST.COM."
True to his word, his website had been updated with an interactive map detailing locations where his lead single, "New Slaves," would be projected on the sides of buildings around the world, including in Los Angeles, Toronto, Paris, London, Berlin and Sydney. Tweeters reported that 'Ye himself showed up at one of the New York locations, in a Maybach, and captured footage of the event on his phone.
The following day (May 18), just before he performed the song, along with follow-up "Black Skinhead," on the season finale of Saturday Night Live, Kim Kardashian Instagrammed a pic of his red Nike Air Yeezy 2's and his album packaging.
By the end of the weekend, the album, which he's calling Yeezus (a nickname that at least Kid Cudi, a former G.O.O.D. Music signee, has publicly called him since 2011), was already available for pre-order.
One-half of Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter, recently told Rolling Stone (the mag for which 'Ye posed wearing a crown of thorns in 2006) that the music they recorded together, like the music that he premiered this weekend, was "very raw; he was rapping -- kind of screaming primally, actually. Kanye doesn't give a f--k."
"His only goal in this whole thing is to make something beautiful -- that's his North Star," John Legend said. "From a very early point, back in 2001, Kanye believed that he had something that the world needed to hear. A lot about him has stayed the same."
This is Kanye's sixth solo album, and his latest since My Dark Beautiful Fantasy released in 2010.
In related news (and all religious puns aside), Mr. West was also spotted this weekend with Drake on the set of Anchorman 2. The pair were donning matching afros.
