Will America soon be waking up to Michael Strahan?
The former NFL player and host of FOX NFL Sunday has been asked to replace Regis Philbin as Kelly Ripa's co-host on Live! With Kelly, reports Broadcasting & Cable. Strahan is expected to take his place in the hosting chair starting Tuesday, September 4.
On Monday, after a revolving door of guest hosts, including Nick Lachey, Seth Meyers and her husband Mark Consuelos, Ripa announced she would be revealing her permanent co-host immediately after Labor Day weekend, kicking off the new season of the morning chat show.
This is a career-making gig for budding television personality Strahan, who will be able to keep his job at FOX NFL Sunday. The New York Giants player has done numerous commercials as well as co-starred in the FOX sitcom Brothers, but nothing comes close to the five million viewers who will be watching him daily at Ripa's side. Live! With Kelly became the most-watched daytime talk show after Oprah Winfrey ended her reign on ABC in 2011.
