Box Office: Brad Pitt Can't Beat Twilight

Pitt's Killing Them Softly bombs opening weekend.

Brad Pitt is no match for Twi-hard fans. The once-bankable actor faced bitter disappointment this weekend when his crime drama Killing Them Softly, for which he brought sexy back with long-ish locks and a goatee, opened to a dismal seventh place, beaten by a slew of films already several weeks in release.
Chief among them was The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. The fifth and final installment of the tween angst franchise stayed in the top spot for the third week in a row, raking in another $17.4 million in change. It was followed by Skyfall in second place and Steven Spielberg's Lincoln in third, which both did impressive double-digit millions.
Denzel Washington's Flight held onto the top 10 with another $4.5 million and ninth place, with audience and critical praise giving Washington a seemingly secure spot in the race to the Oscars.
Next week Hitchcock, a semi-biopic of the famed director starring Jessica Biel and Scarlett Johannsen as two of his muses, opens alongside Gerard Butler's Playing for Keeps (also starring Biel) and Bruce Willis' Lay the Favorite.
