J. Cole Has Just One Request After ESPN Host Jemele Hill's Suspension

And he's not alone.

For the second time in just two months, ESPN has handed down a suspension to Sportscenter co-host Jemele Hill for her political opinions voiced via Twitter.

But this time around, Dreamville’s leading rap prodigy, J. Cole, is calling on everyone witnessing the biased treatment of Hill to stand up behind her.

In another surprise arrival to the Twitterverse, Cole posted a simple tweet on Monday (October 9) in defense of the celebrated sports journalist.

“Protect @jemelehill,” he tweeted.

The 4 Your Eyez Only emcee received a wave of support in his Twitter replies for the 140-character declaration. It’s quite the contrary to executives behind ESPN, however, which released a statement from its official PR Twitter handle on Hill’s suspension. Deeming her rightfully-owned free speech on the NFL boycotts a “violation,” namely those regarding Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’s ultimatum for the team’s players, ESPN confirmed Hill’s two week layoff.

“Jemele Hill has been suspended for two weeks for a second violation of our social media guidelines,” the statement reads. “She previously acknowledged letting her colleagues and company down with an impulsive tweet. In the aftermath, all employees were reminded of how individual tweets may reflect negatively on ESPN and that such actions would have consequences. Hence this decision.”

Following the network’s suspension of Hill, even more influential figures, such as Rev. Al Sharpton, have come forth to proclaim not only an NFL boycott, but one for ESPN entirely for Hill’s suspension.

Thankfully, it looks like Cole won’t be standing alone on this one. See his call-to-action for Hill below.
