47 years ago, on December 4th, a legend fondly known today as Jay Z was born.

In honor of one of the most financially successful and culturally influential people in hip-hop's history, countless rappers have taken to various social media channels to wish Mr. Sean Carter, a.k.a. one of the greatest to ever do it, a happy born day.

In true Hov fashion, the mogul decided to celebrate on the DL, inviting close friends and family to celebrate his birthday with him for an elegant birthday dinner. As reported, Hov was honored at an upscale eatery in Los Angeles, with his wife, Beyoncé, mother-in-law Tina Lawson and Kelly Rowland all in attendance. 

While the rapper-turned-businessman decided to keep his birthday celebrations private, many took to social media to display their adoration and appreciation publicly, with Big Sean arguably wording it best.

"Thanks for all the advice and guidance, laying the blueprint, and being a inspiration to us all," the Detroit rapper wrote in his birthday message to Jay.
