The Supreme Court decided on Monday about Donald Trump's claim of presidential immunity. They ruled that some of his actions to overturn the election are protected from criminal charges.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote that former presidents have "absolute immunity" for actions taken within their official powers. This means they are generally protected from prosecution for official acts but not unofficial ones, according to CBS News.

The court sent the case back to a lower court to decide if Trump's actions were official or unofficial, which will likely delay the case and make it unlikely to go to trial before the November election.

Trump is accused of trying to overturn the 2020 election in several ways, including obstructing the certification of election results, defrauding the government, and disenfranchising voters. Specifically, he is alleged to have spread false claims about election fraud, attempted to create fake elector slates, pressured justice department officials to investigate fake election fraud claims, and urged his vice-president, Mike Pence, to block Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory.

Since January 6, Trump has only grown more unhinged. He’s promising to be a dictator ‘on day one,’ calling for our Constitution to be ‘terminated’ so he can regain power, and promising a “bloodbath” if he loses. The American people already rejected Donald Trump’s self-obsessed quest for power once – Joe Biden will make sure they reject it for good in November.
