Leading women in Hollywood have been coming out in droves detailing their horrifying claims of sexual misconduct against former Hollywood heavyweight, Harvey Weinstein. Academy award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o now joins the ranks of actresses coming forward with shocking accounts of misconduct.

According to a letter she penned for the New York Times, the actress was invited to Weinstein’s Connecticut home when she was a student at Yale School of Drama in 2011. After meeting Weinstein’s wife and children, she was invited into a private screening room. Soon after being invited into his screening room, Weinstein reportedly showed the actress to his bedroom where he reportedly asked her for a massage.

The report goes on to claim that Nyong’o turned down Weinstein’s request, but opted to give a massage to a producer. The harassment continued months later, when the 12 Years A Slave star, still an aspiring actress, met Weinstein for dinner in New York City and he promptly asked her to head upstairs to his room.

It might be tempting to wonder why Nyong'o agreed to meet Weinstein again after their first encounter, but she eloquently reminds readers that he was the most powerful man in Hollywood at the time, and that she wasn't aware of all the other women suffering from his bullying and abuse. Safety in numbers is real.
