Chris Rock, Melissa McCarthy May Team Up for Rom-Com
It's romantic comedy casting so genius, we're not at all surprised Hollywood didn't come up with it. The Los Angeles Times reports that Chris Rock has approached Bridesmaids breakout star and Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy to co-star with him in a comedy he's writing. Rock wants McCarthy to play his wife in a "Jerry Springer couple" kind of way.
"I'm trying to romance her," Rock tells the Times. He said he hopes to persuade the comedic actress to come aboard, and has made some inroads. But McCarthy, whose dance card is chock-full of high-profile projects, is playing hard to get. "There is nothing confirmed at this time," her rep tells TheWrap.com.
Aside from starring in CBS's Mike & Molly, McCarthy's upcoming projects include Judd Apatow's sequel to Knocked Up, called This is 40, crime comedy Identity Theft co-starring Jason Bateman and Tammy, a comedy written by Bridesmaids scribe Annie Mumolo.
Rock is no less busy these days, having just returned from the Sundance premiere of his film 2 Days in New York, in which he plays Julie Delpy's husband. He's also working on new stand-up material (hurray!) and another screenplay, in which he'll play a stand-up comedian.
Hopefully these two will make time for each other and all comedy fans can have a happy ending.
