Look: University of North Dakota in Hot Water Again After White Girls in Blackface Snapchat Goes Viral
After students at University of North Dakota took a photo with the caption, “locked the black b***h out,” the school is now dealing with a separate issue of Snapchat racism.
The Snapchat photo in question shows four white students in black charcoal facial masks with the caption “Black lives matter.” This photo was released less than two days after the earlier racially charged incident at the school.
The first incident occurred when Etonde Maloke, a student at the university, said on Facebook that her friend left her phone in a room and three students posted the photo with the offensive caption to her Snapchat without permission.
The second incident does not appear to have any connection to the first, other than the fact that it is extremely offensive.
University of North Dakota’s president Mark Kennedy has addressed both issues in a statement. With the Black population at UND coming in at around 2.5 percent, it is clear that much work needs to be done to address the racial issues on campus.
“I have been disappointed to learn that we have people in our university community who don’t know that the kind of behavior and messaging demonstrated in these two photos is not OK, and that, in fact, it is inexcusable,” Kennedy said in a statement
Kennedy also said that the school will begin to research the best ways to handle diversity education.
