A Tribe Called Quest Doc Wins Producers Guild Award
Michael Rapaport's passion project Beats, Rhyme and Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest may not be in the running for an Oscar at this year's upcoming ceremony, but it's already taken home another prestigious award.
According to Hip Hop DX, the film about the legendary Native Tongues trio won for Best Documentary at this year's Producers Guild Awards.
Although the PGAs, a producer-focused award ceremony that honors the execution of films and television programs, typically predicts which films will be nominated and win Oscars the following month, Rapaport's film wasn't nominated in the documentary categories of the renowned awards show.
Nonetheless, the doc, released last summer, still beat out Bill Cunningham New York, Project Nim, Senna and The Union.
