R&B Singer Alex Vaughn Is Here To Stay With New Single 'Mirage' And Her 'Less Is More' Approach To Style
A new wave of R&B singers has been coming up on the scene. One young lady, in particular, left us simply speechless after hearing her vocals on a track called "Mirage," which was inspired by a toxic situation-ship (which most of us women can relate to).
Alexis Vaughn is a powerhouse out of the DMV whose talent, beauty, and aura led to LVRN (Love Renaissance) signing her. She is a producer, pianist, and singer/songwriter who has a style that fans have come to love.
Alex is now on tour opening up for label-mate Summer Walker. So we spoke to her about her iconic mushroom haircut, fun 90s style, favorite beauty products, and how she unwinds after a show.
See the full interview below.
BET: What is your self-care routine or the one beauty product you can’t live without?
Alex Vaughn: One beauty product I cannot live without is DARK BROWN LINER. The versatility in that product is insane. Get me a little dark brown from the beauty supply store and it’s a wrap. Lip gloss too! I need them both at all times!
BET: You have such a 90’s vibe with your pixie cut and style. Who would you say is your style inspiration and why?
Alex Vaughn: TBH, I always appreciated the effortless beauty of the women in the 90s. Always a very simple, less is more type of feeling. Never mean girls, just nice and naturally pretty. Those are probably the ONLY things I take with me from the 90s. In terms of my HAIR, I was just tired of it not growing fast enough lol, literally pointed to a picture of a mushroom cut at the salon & never looked back (Circa 2011).
Aside from that I just see things I like and put them together. I don’t really look up to anyone for fashion inspiration, but if I really had to say one person, it would be MOTHER ELEKTRA from the show ‘Pose’. That woman ATE. It was beyond the looks. It was her POSTURE and AURA. I will forever aspire.
BET: As an artist do you have a mantra or a self-care regimen you do before you go on stage?
Alex Vaughn: Before going on stage, I pray. That’s my biggest thing. So many things are moving around the day of the show, and it is so easy to lose focus on what’s important. Prayer fixes that for me & gets me together every time.
BET: What can the fans look forward to with your new music?
Alex Vaughn: They can look forward to the ride of their life! I aim for my music to take you to a new world. I hope that whatever you discover, you can apply. You can look forward to new perspectives and challenges, only to make us all the best versions of ourselves, while having a good time!
BET: Who would your dream collaboration be with and why?
Alex Vaughn Kanye. He is the first artist I gravitated towards after the “kiddie music” phase. He had soul but was flowing. You felt his words. You thought about what he said. His artistry has inspired me so deeply. To collaborate on any music with him would be so full circle for me.
BET: After a long day of performing, what are some ways you unwind?
Alex Vaughn: When I get off stage, I’m usually still on fire. I am ready to get on another stage immediately. Since that is usually NOT the case (Lol), I just get some food and go to bed. Rarely do I wanna go out after. I wanna wipe off my face and watch all footage of the night before, like its film.
BET: Is there anything else you want fans to know about you?
Alex Vaughn: I want my fans to know that I LOVE THEM. TRULY. To be embraced by people who don’t even know me means more than you could imagine. I do what I do for US, and there’s SO much more to come! I hope the world is ready!
