If a football player takes a nasty slip and fall out of bounds, should he be responsible for his injury, or should the owners of the stadium?

That's the heated debate raging on between Reggie Bush and St. Louis right now, after the veteran running back tried to slow his momentum out of bounds following a play at the St. Louis Rams' Edward Jones Dome last November, slipping and tearing his MCL in one of the worst freak accidents you'll ever see in sports.

A week after the incident, and following his surgery, Bush announced that he's suing the city , which owns the Dome, over gross negligence, leading towards his freak accident. In particular, the 31-year-old San Francisco 49ers running back took issue with the concrete ring surrounding the perimeter of the field that he slipped on at the stadium.

Well, after being silent at first, the city of St. Louis is firing back, saying Bush should only blame himself for falling and tearing his MCL. Really?

In court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, St. Louis claims that Bush could have "stopped, slackened his speed to have avoided the accident."

The city added: "[Bush] assumed the risk of running on concrete in shoes with cleats on them, and of all danger inherent of playing football."

Wow. The Lou has some nerve to say that so confidently, when a concrete ring has no business being around a football field, where players often take tumbles out of bounds.
