Swae Lee Prays For ‘Compassion’ Following The Fatal Shooting Of His Stepfather

Rae Sremmurd's half-brother has been arrested for murder in connection to the fatal shooting of their stepfather.

Prayers are up for Swae Lee (born Khalif Brown) and Slim Jxmmi (born Aaquil Brown) of hip-hip duo Rae Sremmurd following a TMZ report that the two brother’s stepfather was fatally shot, and their 19-year-old half-brother, Michael Sullivan, is a person of interest in the shooting.

  • According to TMZ, police were dispatched to an undisclosed residential home located in the duo’s hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi, Monday night (Jan. 6) where they arrived to find 62-year-old Floyd Sullivan dead from multiple apparent gunshot wounds, as identified by the Lee County Medical Examiner’s office.

Reports add that his death is currently being investigated as a homicide by the Tupelo police. Michael Sullivan was taken to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation and later released where he was arrested for murder in connection to the shooting, TMZ adds. Police additionally told the outlet that no one else is being sought in connection with the killing and no charges have been filed thus far as the investigation is still ongoing.

  • In a separate tweet, Swae Lee posted four broken heart emojis and expressed his grief. “I pray this world let me keep some compassion,” he lamented. As detailed by TMZ, Sullivan helped raised Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi since they were preteens and moved to Tupelo with their mother, Bernadette, at some point.

Slim Jxmmi has not publicly commented on the shooting. Prayers are pouring in across social media for the two in light of the tragedy.

  • The somber news comes just as Rae Sremmurd recently celebrated the fifth anniversary of their debut album, SremmLife, on January 6. The career-landmarking project also commemorates their discovery by one of hip-hop’s premier Atlanta producers, Mike WiLL Made-It

BET sends its prayers, love and light to Rae Sremmurd and their family during this difficult time.  Read Swae Lee’s tweets in full below.
