#BLM Protesters Disrupt Jeb Bush Campaign Rally
Jeb Bush is trying his hardest to court the Black vote, but if his recent campaign event is any indication, he's not getting very far.
When asked about racial injustice in America at a campaign rally on Wednesday, Bush said, “We have serious problems, and these problems have gotten worse in the last few years." He continued, "Communities, people no longer trust the basic institutions in our society that they need to trust to create, to make things work.”
He emphasized his belief that education is crucial to reducing racial inequality.
Black Lives Matter protesters disrupted his remarks, however, chanting the mantra after expressing their feelings that Bush's comments were too vague and put too much emphasis on education in the future, rather than addressing current racial tensions.
According to The Washington Post, Bush’s campaign team said he also met with BLM activists ahead of the event to discuss issues like criminal justice reform. The protests reportedly caused an eruption of counter-chants of “White lives matter” and “All lives matter.”
Bush is one of several candidates BLM protesters have targeted in the 2016 POTUS run. Bernie Sanders was forced off the stage at his recent event in Seattle when activists took over the microphone, and Hillary Clinton sat down with activists privately after a campaign event in New Hampshire last week.
