Diddy to Launch Music-Themed Cable Network
Music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs is planning another attack on the world of television in his next venture — the launch of a music-themed cable network reportedly called Revolt. According to Broadcasting & Cable, Diddy is in works to introduce the urban arts station by year's end.
Sources say that Diddy's station comes as a response to an open call from Comcast, which has made a commitment to the FCC to help launch minority-owned networks.
Although Comcast reps would not confirm that Diddy's proposal had been approved, a Time Warner Cable spokesperson has confirmed that the subscription TV operator has had discussions regarding Revolt and Diddy. However, nothing has been confirmed.
As far as his other ventures go, Diddy recently spoke with DJ Whoo Kid about the endurance of his Bad Boy music label, saying that in recent years Bad Boy has been the victim of a smear campaign. Diddy described the music industry as a dog-eat-dog world and pointed out that, all things considered, Bad Boy has outlasted the competition.
"Over the last couple of years, there’s been a strong propaganda movement that’s been brewing in the negative sense against Bad Boy, against what it is to sign to the Bad Boy label, if it’s a detriment to your career,” he said. “Just hate. Just regular hate and also a lot of people not understanding how this industry works.”
"This is a hard industry. This is not for kids. This is not for the weak. If you are weak, you will get eaten alive in this industry. This industry has a life expectancy of like two years," he said.
Bad Boy has a refreshed talent roster that now includes French Montana, Machine Gun Kelly and Red Café
At the end of 2011, Diddy also promised to do more acting and producing in the new year.
