Curt Schilling Compares Muslims to Nazis on Twitter
ESPN yanked Curt Schilling from its Little League World Series coverage and suspended him indefinitely Tuesday, after the former Major League Baseball star pitcher tweeted a controversial meme, comparing Muslims to Nazis, as reported by several media outlets.
Schilling tweeted the message, "the math is staggering when you get to true #'s" accompanied by a graphic meme of Adolf Hitler with the statement: “It’s said only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists. In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How’d that go?”
Although Schilling has since deleted the controversial tweet, it was captured as a screenshot on Twitter.
ESPN released the following statement to the media, including Variety:
“Curt’s tweet was completely unacceptable, and in no way represents our company’s perspective. We made that point very strongly to Curt and have removed him from his current Little League assignment pending further consideration."
Schilling apologized to some Twitter users individually, offering it “didn’t come across in any way as intended or interpreted” and “my mistake posting the stuff.”
He even tweeted an apology.
