Director Found to Helm Marvin Gaye Biopic

Looks like a film on soul music legend Marvin Gaye may finally see completion. Indiewire.com reports that after some five years in the making, the much-anticipated biopic Sexual Healing seems to be on track, with Julien Temple set to direct.

Temple is known for his long career with rock-music films, including the Sex Pistols documentary The Filth and the Fury and the David Bowie musical Absolute Beginners.

A long-awaited Marvin Gaye biopic starring Law & Order actor Jesse L. Martin, called Sexual Healing, was set to begin shooting in April of 2008. The film focused on the last years of the soul singer’s life. Sopranos actor James Gandolfini was set to play Belgian promoter Freddy Cousaert, who helped Gaye get back on his feet to record his comeback album, Midnight Love, which spawned the monster hit “Sexual Healing.” Back then Lauren Goodman was set to direct, but since April 2008 no one has heard anything about the project.

No word on whether Goodman’s script has been revised. Originally, Sexual Healing was loosely based on the book Trouble Man. No principal actors have been mentioned, and it appears that neither Gandolfini nor Martin are involved any longer.
