Remains Recovered In Arkansas Confirmed To Be Missing 4-Year-Old Maleah Davis
On June 3, Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences revealed that the remains of a child found in Arkansas last week were identified as those of missing Houston 4-year-old Maleah Davis.
The cause and manner of her death are pending, the institute added.
Last week, activist Quanell X told police Derion Vence, the ex-fiance of Maleah’s mother, confessed to dumping the 4-year-old's body in Arkansas.
On Friday, May 31, Houston detectives conducted a search in Arkansas, where the remains were found in a garbage bag.
The remains were not immediately identified, but after an autopsy, police confirmed they belonged to Maleah.
Maleah was reported missing on May 4 by Vence, who initially claimed the girl was abducted by three men during a carjacking. After investigators found Vence’s car in Missouri City, Texas, cadaver-sniffing dogs detected the scent of human remains inside the trunk.
Additionally, police found traces of blood matching Maleah’s DNA inside Vence’s apartment bathroom.
Vence was arrested on May 11 and charged with tampering with evidence.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates as more information becomes available.
