The days of culturally insensitive social media "jokes" seem to reach no end as yet another case has been found most recently at Curry High School in Alabama. In this instance, a Snapchat photo was posted of a Black student identified as Wade Spurgeon being "lynched" by his white peer Jordan.

In the photo, Jordan can be seen grabbing the the noose with one hand and giving a "thumbs up" with the other while Wade bows his head, looking at the floor. Perhaps even more disturbing than the photo itself is the caption, which read, "Treating him right at curry high."

Now that the photo has gone viral, both student have spoken out, calling the decision "stupid" and even their mothers are weighing in on the controversy.

Jordan's mother, Samantha Blackenship, spoke to AL.com, saying she's sorry for her son's behavior but is adamant he's no racist.

"I am the mother of the boy in the pucture taken in the Curry locker room. I want to start out with saying my son is no racist, and I will not tolerate any kind of racist behavior from him. I am dealing with him and his punishment," she said. "I also want to add he and the boy in the pic have been friends since elementary school and they [both were] goofing off when they did this."

She went on to blame the questionable desicion on her son's age and maturity saying he is "young and definitely did not think about what the consequences of such behavior would be."

Jordan apologized on Instagram, writing, "We just planned it as a joke. It was stupid for me too [sic] post something like that in the first place. I just wasn't thinking."

Wade's mother, Carol Spurgeon, told WVTM that though she's disappointed in what happened, she knows there was no malicious intent behind the photo, and believes her son deserves just as much blame as Jordan.

"I know there have been some very negative things said about Jordan but my son was standing there just the same as Jordan," she said. "Jordan didn't force Wade to do it, Wade didn't force Jordan to do it, nobody forced the kid to take the picture... It is something that happened, it was stupid, it was very ignorant on all three parts but they are 17-year-old kids and they have a lot of mistakes left to make yet."

Wade added that they "didn't mean to offend anybody by it," saying they were just "joking around like we usually do."

Jordan and Wade were both suspended from Curry High School and will now complete their senior year at an alternative institution.

Walker County Superintendent Jason Adkins also added that further disciplinary action has been taken, saying, "All involved, from the two students in the picture to the one that actually took it have all been disciplined."
