Box Office: Hunger Games Tops for Third Weekend in a Row

Mockingjay is second-highest grossing film of the year.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 topped the box office for the third week in a row. The film earned $21.6 million in the slow post-Thanksgiving weekend, bringing its domestic total to $257.7 million. The film, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth, surpasses Captain America: Winter Soldier as the second-highest grossing film of the year, after Guardians of the Galaxy.
Staying in second place was Penguins of Madagascar, starring the voices of John Malkovich and Benedict Cumberbatch, earning $11.1 million, for a disappointing domestic total of $49.6 million so far.
Horrible Bosses 2, starring Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Foxx, came in third with $8.6 million. Rounding out the top five were the animated flick Big Hero 6 and the intellectual sci-fi drama Interstellar, bringing in $8.1 million and $8 million, respectively.
Next week, Chris Rock and his all-star crew will storm the box office with Top Five. Also opening is Exodus: Gods and Kings, Ridley Scott's biblical epic that has been mired in controversy over its casting biases. Will Black Twitter's boycott of the film affect its bottom line?
