Zendaya Look-Alike Contest Draws Crowd Near Actress’ Former School
The trend of celebrity look-alike contests continues to thrive, as dozens of young women braved harsh weather to attend a Zendaya look-alike competition near her former school.
Though the “Dune” star herself was not present, about 50 fans bundled up and showed up to Wilma Chan Park on Wednesday, Nov. 20, to cheer on seven competitors who were vying for the coveted top spot.
24-year-old Zainab Bansfield claimed the title of "Miss Zendaya," winning a white sash, a flower crown, and a gift basket filled with chocolates, Carol’s Daughter shampoo and conditioner, $40, and more.
The San Francisco native shared her plans to use the $40 prize money to purchase tickets for Zendaya’s upcoming film with Robert Pattinson, “The Drama.”
Bansfield, who took the day off from her engineering job to attend the event, donned a long cream dress paired with a beige checkered scarf over her head, said Zendaya’s chic red carpet appearances inspired her look.
“I’m honestly shocked,” Bansfield told the San Francisco Chronicle. “I’m normally an introvert, actually, but I was like, ‘What is Zendaya? She’s energy. She’s fun. Let me bring that.’”
The contest was organized by 20-year-old Cassi Simms from Antioch, who seized the opportunity of her day off from her healthcare job to create the event.
