Joan Smalls Launches Estée Lauder Lipstick Collection
Joan Smalls has just announced that she’s partnered up with Estée Lauder to launch a lipstick collection of 12 matte shades. The model first got the idea of creating her own lipstick line after her violet-hued lips at the 2014 Met Gala received so much praise on social media. She loved the positive reaction so much that she decided to follow that trail and develop a collection with the beauty brand.
Smalls, who became the first Latina to serve as the face of Estée Lauder in 2011, said that she was very involved in the development of her lipstick collection and even turned to her Instagram followers to name one of the shades. According to Vogue, the 27-year-old Puerto Rican beauty chose matte instead of shiny because it’s “easier to maintain,” but will still feel creamy without drying out your lips.
She also admitted to taking her time before falling in love with lip color, but now can’t get enough of expressing herself through some really bold and vibrant shades. So what does it take to pull off a daring hue?
“Confidence! It’s all about self-expression. Just go with your heart and your mood. If you don’t want to go as bold, pat it down with a tissue and use it as a tint,” she said. “Baby steps.”
Shades include Neon Azalea (pink), Commanding (black cherry, named by her followers), Extrovert (eggplant purple) and Shameless Violet. The 12 new shades will be a permanent part of Estée Lauder’s lipstick collection.
