Nicki Minaj On Cardi B Beef: ‘I’m Not Going To Bite My Tongue’
Nicki Minaj’s fourth studio album, Queen, is all the rave in the hip-hop streets since its August 10 release, and her New York press runs have placed her in front of Funk Flex, Genius’s Rob Markman, CRWN’s Elliott Wilson, and now, Beats 1 Radio’s Ebro Darden.
Thus, with so many probing questions pressing her about her femcee rivalries this week, it’s no surprise that Nicki was hesitant at first to answer Ebro’s inquiry about them. But when she finally responded on the Apple Music radio segment, she had a mouthful for one particular “beef” she wasn’t even aware existed until now: the Cardi B controversy.
Segueing into the topic of femcee beefs, Ebro pointed out that he never quite saw such tension with certain female artists coming…
Ebro named Remy and Cardi, explaining that he never saw them “heading in this path” with Nicki. After pondering whether she believes their situations are reconcilable, Nicki hummed away in boredom at the question, then asked whether they could simply move on to the next.
“If you know me you would know the answer to the first question, like come on, give me a f**king break, OK?” she responded to Ebro. “Now, I didn’t know Cardi and I had an issue, but I guess we do since you’re saying it and other people are saying it. To me, she may have taken an issue with things that I’ve said. But, I’m not going to bite my tongue. You gotta have thick skin, people talk shit about me all the time.”
The “Chun-Li” rapstress added that she’s also not one to go around and try to control the sh**-talking either, contrary to Cardi’s petition to celebrity blogs like The Shade Room to stop posting her.
“You can’t expect to be liked and loved and praised all the f**king time!” Nicki declared. “Give me a break.”
‘You’re coming in to the wrong game if you want people to kiss your ass and suck your d**k all day my nigga, like come on!’ Nicki concluded…
She would know, too, after some sketchy situations during her industry initiation. Nicki said that she’s always believed in opening doors for the next generations of music, as the same was done for her. However, rumors that she was rejecting of her femcee predecessors back then are simply fluff for the narratives created against her, Nicki said.
If you look back on her career, you’ll find the proof of that as well, she told the Genius audience. In her The Come Up interviews from years ago, Nicki recalled naming several female artists as her inspiration ad nauseam.
“But they don't tell you that story about me!” she said before explaining another epochal moment in her career: the release of the scathing “Roman’s Revenge” record. “They only have one narrative! Someone got at me! A veteran got at me, and I hit them with ‘Roman’s Revenge’ and I kept on going!”
By this point, Nicki was fired up and recollected her All Hip Hop interview where she even named some of her then-idols-now-rivals like Lil Kim and Remy Ma in her top five favorite rappers of all time.
“Go on YouTube and see how many times I said bitches' names!” she said. “But y’all training new bitches to come in and disrespect me!”
Welp. The receipts don’t lie, folks!
