Her family history has always been cloudy. In an interview with The Easterner in February, Dolezal said her family moved to Cape Town, South Africa, when she was a child and that her parents physically abused her and her siblings. “They would punish us by skin complexion,” Dolezal told the paper.

But Ruthanne and Larry Dolezal are done putting up with her act. They have no problem with their daughter working on issues related to Black Americans, but they want the world to know the truth.

"She's chosen not to just be herself but to represent herself as an African American woman or a biracial person. And that's simply not true," said Ruthanne Dolezal to KREM. They said she began portraying herself as Black after she divorced her African-American husband in 2004.

As of Friday morning, #RachelDolezal, was the top trending topic on Twitter, followed by #AskRachel, which many are using to jokingly pose questions to Dolezal relating to Black culture. "What's your hair type?" user @Bastylefilegirl asked. "Collards or kale?," @umyeahokthen tweeted. "Has anyone ever eaten your potato salad at a bbq?" @BrokeyMcpoverty wrote.
