Box Office: Jurassic World Roars to First Place
Jurassic World took a huge, T-Rex-sized bite out of the box office this weekend, raking in a huge $204.6 million at the box office.
The action film, starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and Omar Sy, performed even better than expected and is the second biggest domestic opening of all time — just behind 2012's The Avengers.
Coming in second place was Melissa McCarthy's action-comedy Spy, which drew in an additional $16 million for a domestic total of $56.9 million. The third spot went to San Andreas, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, with $11 million for a domestic total of $119.3 million so far.
Rounding out the top five were Insidious: Chapter 3 and Pitch Perfect 2, which grossed $7.3 and $5.9 million, respectively.
Next week, a flood of new titles comes to theaters, including coming-of-age dramedy Dope, starring Shameik Moore and A$AP Rocky, Pixar's latest Inside Out and Zoe Saldana's Infinity Polar Bear.
